Yellow Woods Challenge - the award winning eco-educational initiative run by Yell – is making a welcome return this school year after a major makeover.
Designed to help young children learn about the environment and sustainable development, the Yellow Woods Challenge supports local authority recycling schemes and the Woodland Trust.
Nursery, pre-school, primary and special schools throughout the UK are now invited to sign up at www.yellow-woods.org.uk. Registered schools will enjoy curriculum–linked teaching resources, including videos, lesson plans and interactive whiteboard materials, and will also receive monthly e-newsletters with topical eco-ideas and activities.
Schools will also have the opportunity to take part in Kirk’s Recycling Competition*. Championed by campaign mascot Kirk, the competition involves schools recycling old Yellow Pages directories for the chance to win up to £500 in cash as well as educational Woodland Trust prizes.

Yell is one of the charity's longest standing partners, whose support has helped engage hundreds of thousands of children in tree planting over the years."
Yellow Pages directories contain an average of 60% recycled fibre content, with the virgin fibre also used in the paper production process coming from sustainably managed forests.
Yellow Pages directories are 100% recyclable and in 2009/10 the rate of diversion from landfill was 93%**.

* Kirk’s Recycling Competition is only open to schools in areas where the local authority can accept old Yellow Pages in its household recycling scheme, or can make alternative recycling collections.
