Results

The Welsh Institute of Sport (WIS) used to send 83.2 tonnes of waste to landfill every year. In the first 4 months of implementing the recycling bins provided by the Resource Efficiency Equipment Fund, WIS reduced waste to landfill by 20 tonnes of paper and 5 tonnes of pastic and cans. The represented more than a 30% reduction in total waste to landfill.

This is almost double the projected figures, such was the commitment from staff and visitors to the centre, especially the catering and ICT departments.

Six months later, WIS had made further improvements in the recycling initiatives with 50% of total waste being diverted from landfill from increased recycling and a shift in culture which meant that less waste is now being produced.

WIS has been awarded a Gold Green Apple Environmental Awards for their work in improving its environmental pracices and has completed the assessment stage for the Green Dragon Level 2 standard.
