Recycling Campaigns

The Envirowise Public Sector Waste Minimisation Campaign (PSWMC) is committed to helping the public sector in Wales with resource efficiency and waste minimisation initiatives.

As part of this commitment the PSWMC has been able to allocate support from the Welsh Assembly Government specifically for the public sector in Wales to enable organisations get involved with campaigns and initiatives that help to promote good environmental practices and behaviours.

In 2009, the PSWMC has enabled public sector organisations in Wales to get involved with the following two recycling campaigns.

Every Can Counts

Every Can Counts is a partnership between drink can manufacturers, the recycling industry and leading waste management companies, the aim is to encourage you to recycle more by providing facilities to recycle cans whilst you're at work, college or out and about.

The Every Can Counts campaign is working with a small number of public sector organisations in Wales to pilot the scheme. So far the scheme has worked successfully in private sector businesses.

Each public sector organisation that applied to take part has received a free Every Can Counts Starter Park, support and assistance on how to implement the scheme, information leaflets for staff/students on the scheme, support for awareness raising activities such as workshops etc and recognition through campaign PR activities including a case study.

For information on the organisations who have taken part in the Every Can Counts campaign visit the Every Can Counts page of this website.

Recycle Zone

Recycle Zone is a joint initiative between Coca-Cola Enterprises Ltd and WRAP. The aim of the initiative is to make recycling drinks and bottles easier for the general public by creating zones of recycling facilities.

The Recycle Zone initiative, though 50% match funding provides recycling bins, campaign launch and communications and assistance with contracting arrangements with waste disposal suppliers. The typical cost of a Recycle Zone is approximately £10,000 of which 50% comes from the Recycle Zone partners Coca-Cola and WRAP.

Recycle Zones are selected on criteria such as footfall and likely recyclate levels. For example parks, hospitals, schools, colleges, universities, museums and so on.

In 2009, the PSWMC contributed 25% towards the cost of a Welsh public sector organisation St Fagans National Museum of Wales to develop a number of Recycle Zones, and be part of the national campaign.
