Promoting Sustainable Development in Wales

To support its sustainable development agenda, the Welsh Assembly Government is organising three initiatives:
Wales Sustainability Week – 17th – 23rd May 2010
This will take place from the 17th to 23rd May 2010; the week before the Hay Festival.
Individuals, organisations (from the public, private and the third sector) and communities are invited to:
• take specific action to make Wales more sustainable;
• celebrate and promote what they are already doing;
• become part of a network of individuals, organisations and communities that works together to make Wales more sustainable.
The Welsh Assembly Government will make available “Wales Sustainability Week” publicity material, put you in contact with different organisations and communities who are undertaking similar activity, and highlight new innovative approaches and best practice at Hay on Earth and via the Cynnal Cymru-Sustain Wales website and newsletter.
Sustainable Development Challenge Fund
The Sustainable Development Challenge Fund is intended to support organisations, communities and businesses develop innovative new approaches to sustainable development in Wales. Participants will be asked to develop and submit projects for consideration during a series of Hay on Earth workshops will be run as part of the Hay Festival. Each workshop will give organisations expert advice and support. Projects that will be eligible for funding will need to and help achieve the WAG’s vision for a sustainable Wales and be innovative and new, demonstrating cutting edge thinking
Sustainable Development Charter
At the Hay Festival, Jane Davidson, AM, the Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing will launch a Sustainable Development Charter to encourage organisations in Wales to make sustainable development their central organising principle. We will support the development of this Charter and provide support modules and other advice for organisations.
