Waste Survey

To understand the scope of what the public sector can realistically achieve and help organisations determine their own baseline the Assembly Government requested support from public sector organisations in Wales to complete a survey of waste arisings

The survey has identified that the public sector in Wales produces over 190,000 tonnes of its own waste. Of the 60,000 tonnes of mixed municipal (black bag) waste generated, over 80% has the potential to be diverted from landfill if it was effectively segregated, which could lead to a saving of £4.5 million per year.

Completion of the survey will help set the future direction of support to the public sector in Wales.
