We have produced an easy to use excel based calculator tool to be used to enhance decision-making in relation to waste management practice.  

The aim of this carbon calculator tool is to help public sector bodies estimate the potential Green House Gas (GHG) impacts of managing in house waste in different ways. It is not designed to be a replacement for a detailed assessment or for using to report actual GHGs associated with waste management practices.

The tool allows a baseline of waste tonnages and treatment options to be developed.  This data is then compared to an alternative scenario where the user can choose to manage the waste differently, including reducing the tonnage for many waste streams.  The potential GHG emissions of the two scenarios are then calculated and compared.

The tool can be used to model single waste stream options (e.g. cardboard) or a combination of options for a range of waste streams.
