South Wales Police have been able to effectively initiate 'Resue and Recycle' schemes and as such waste sent to landfill has been reduced. This has led to financial savings and has promoted a more sustainable and environmentally aware police force.
Without a fault the team have been working in all areas of their building to ensure that all divisons have the required equipment needed to help them towards a more efficient and environmentally aware organisation.
To guarantee that the waste contractors are fulfilling their duties and are complying with South Wales Police requirements, visits have been arranged to the appropriate landfill and recycling plants. South Wales Police have also felt that it is important to attend seminars and courses to further help their understanding and expertise with environmental strategies.
"The organisation is committed to reducing this impact by minimising waste through promoting the reuse and recycling of resources; reducing its energy consumption; reducing harmful emissions from its estate and fleet and to working with suppliers who, themselves, have sound environmental policies and practice"
South Wales Police have shown great deadication in their work which has resulted in a number of achievements.
A variety of activities took place to tackle different waste streams: baseline assessments were undertaken to quantify and monitor various waste streams, landfill avoidence for paper, card, metal, polystyrene, furnature, textiles, printer cartridges and wooden pallets have been initiated. General waste collections have also been reduced by centralising contract manangement.
